MEDICAL staff at Malu’u area health centre in North Malaita have in strongest term condemned an alleged assault on one of its staff early this week.
Information reaching this paper claimed that a male nurse on duty on Tuesday was allegedly assaulted by young male after he was unhappy with the medical instruction given by the duty nurse to a patient he accompanied to the health centre.
The male suspect was believed to be under the influence of liquor at the time and was not a patient.
Speaking to the Solomon Star in Auki via phone from Malau’u clinic a staff Lawrence Irobaea confirmed the assault incident saying officers at Malu’u area health centre are not happy with the incident.
As a result Malu’u clinic over the last two days has scaled down on its operations where they only perform outpatient in the morning part and attended to serious cases in the afternoon.
This is part of a protest following the assault incident.
Mr. Irobaea said the attitude of the attacker is unacceptable and the staff will not tolerate such action on their staff.
He said chiefs at Malu’u are aware of the incident have also condemned the act and call for the police to arrest the person responsible.
The case was already reported to the police with a complain filed against the attacker.
