A COURT Sentence for a man who breached the lockdown after walking to King George Sixth market area, East Honiara on Monday will be handed down this afternoon.
This followed the sentencing submissions and mitigation on the matter of the 25-year-old man yesterday before Deputy Chief Magistrate Ricky Iomea.
The accused had pleaded guilty to the charge of restriction of movement of persons in Honiara.
This is Contrary to clause 4 (1) and (2) (a) and (b) of the Emergency Powers (COVID-19) (Honiara Emergency Zone) (Restriction of Movement) Order 2021 and Regulation 15 (1) (a), (2) and (4) of the Emergency Powers (COVID-19) (No. 2) Regulation 2021.
The accused as arrested by police at the King George Sixth betel nut market area at 8.30am on Monday August 30.
The court had heard yesterday that he left his residence at the old Taiwan farm and went to King George market to look for betelnut.
A total of 32 people had been arrested during the 36 hours lockdown exercise that ended at 6am on Tuesday – August 31.
Those arrested are aged between 18 and 35-years-old.
The government issued the 36 hours lockdown to test their preparedness to respond to the imminent threat of the COVID-19 Delta Variant.
The lockdown was enforced within the declared emergency zone from Poha River in the west of Honiara to Alligator Creek in the east of Honiara.
