Police has arrested a man from Ambu community near Auki in Malaita Province following the death of his younger brother on Friday.
Police confirmed to the Solomon Star the deceased as late Robert Aitorea who died after being involved in a fight with his elder brother.
The deceased sustain knife wound to his back.
The deceased was rushed to Kilu’ufi Hospital but died along the way.
The incident happened between 5pm and 6pm on Friday afternoon.
Information obtained stated that the deceased arrived home intoxicated that day.
On arrival, he saw his elder brother (accused) working on a small chicken house to house a hen the deceased have claimed ownership over after he realized some eggs went missing.
The deceased after realizing some eggs went missing went ahead and accused his elder brother for the missing eggs.
The accused who was sober at the time of the incident told his younger brother the missing eggs was the reason why he built the chicken house to house the hen and her eggs.
The suspect denied being responsible for the missing eggs.
The deceased then verbally used unacceptable swearing words which irritated his elder brother that eventually triggered physical confrontation between the two brothers.
According to the police, the deceased grabbed a small kitchen knife and allegedly used it to attack his elder brother.
During the course of the attack the elder brother received knife wounds to his fingers and hands.
His elder brother then tried to diffuse further the knife attack by tackling the deceased to the ground who was still holding on to the knife.
According to information obtained, the knife was believed to have caught the deceased on his back when his elder brother attempted to tackle him to the ground to stop him from carrying out another knife attack.
The deceased was rushed to Kilu’ufi hospital where he lost his life along the way.
Police had retrieved the kitchen knife. The suspect is now under police custody as an investigation into the case continues.
