Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Honiara City are investigating a fatal accident on Saturday morning where a male person in his 20’s was hit and killed at Henderson area.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Central Police Station, Superintendent John Matamaru said the fatal accident occurred along the highway up to the eastern end of the Henderson airport between 4 am and 6 am this morning.
PPC Matamaru said, the vehicle involved in the fatal accident was travelling down in westerly direction when all of a sudden the deceased ran across the road and was killed instantly.
Superintendent Matamaru said the driver is a probationer police constable who works at the National Traffic Department.
Police had apprehended the driver and placed him in police custody for further dealings.
The driver of the motor vehicle also underwent a Random Breatherlizer Test (RBT) that confirmed the presence of alcohol in his blood, but was below the legal prescribed level.
Mr. Matamaru conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased during this time of bereavement for the loss of their family member.
Both parties involved in the dialogue of the fatal accident have reconciled and have established an understanding on the way forward to resolve the matter and to maintain peace and harmony between themselves.
Although reconciliation had taken place between parties, police will proceed on with the matter before the courts, says PPC Matamaru.
