A MAN from Harosi in Makira Province has been arrested and remanded in custody for allegedly wounding his wife.
Kirakira staff sergeant Jackson Gapu said the man used a knife during a domestic row and allegedly wounded his wife with the knife.
“This incident should send a clear signal that taking anger on wives violently to the extent of causing injuries is a criminal offence.
“Women must understand that their husbands have no right to attack them whatsoever.
“In other provinces and usually in the Solomon Islands, some cultures allow a man to beat his wife if she did something wrong.
“But our laws say otherwise. Therefore it is important that men understand the fact that beating their wife is criminal in nature and can result in imprisonment.”
Mr Gapu said the man was arrested by Kirakira police over the weekend.
Mr Gapu said the man will remain in custody for 15 days after which he will face justice.
