An man is under investigation after police and fisheries officials found sea cucumber in his premises in Auki on Monday.
The discovery of the sea cucumbers come as a surprise since sea cucumber ban is still effective in the country.
The discovery and serious investigation was confirmed by the Malaita Provincial Police Commander David Water to the Solomon Star office in Auki, Wednesday.
Mr. Wate said the man was put under investigation to help police and the Ministry of Fisheries investigation team by revealing others who have involved with him in the illegal sea cucumber trade.
He said the aim of the police now is to track down the network and bring those who are involved in this illegal sea cucumber harvest to face the law.
He said people should respect the sea cucumber ban and put a stop to the illegal harvest as the ban is yet to be lifted.
With that, Mr. Wate called on the public to respect the laws put in-place to safeguard the natural resources and any sighting on illegal sea cucumber harvesting should be reported to the police and the responsible ministry right away.
Locals of north Malaita recently raised complaints that some locals in Lau lagoon are harvesting sea cucumbers and supplying them to a man in Auki.
The latest discovery of harvested sea cucumber in the premises of a man who married to a local woman in Auki has brought to light the long running illegal sea cucumber trading in Malaita.
