A Man from Kwai Island in ward 16 East Malaita has been missing after failing to return home from a fishing trip last Monday.
A report reaching Sunday Star confirmed that the incident happened just outside of Leili Island.
Relative of the missing person and Provincial Assembly Member (MPA) for ward 16 in Malaita Preston Billy has confirmed to this paper the sad news.
He said the missing person went out fishing with two other villagers’ early on Monday.
“Later on that day, only the two returned home while the other (missing man) did not return on time as expected by family members,” he said.
After hearing the news of the missing man, family members including Mr Billy went out for a search on Monday night.
However, the search was unsuccessful.
Mr Billy also confirms that police in Auki also joined the search the following day.
But they still could not locate the missing man, who was believed to be in his late 20’s.
They only locate a paddle and fishing line which was believed to be that of the missing person.
Mr Billy said the final search mission on Thursday was not successful.
However Mr Billy called on coastal communities in ward 16 and East Kwaio to report any sighting of the missing man to the police.
