POLICE will charge the man they arrested in connection to the Monday’s illegal planned protest at Kukum, Honiara.
This was after they completed their investigation, Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau told reporters at his conference, Thursday.
Mr Mangau said the man was arrested for aggressive approach and abusive and insulting behaviour towards police officers who try to calm the crowd at Monday’s illegal gathering.
“He is being dealt with by Police in Honiara and after the investigation is complete he will be formally charged and released,” Mr Mangau said.
Mangau said apart from the aggressive approach and the abusive and insulting behaviour police will also charge him for his behaviours and actions related to the protest.
“He is not the leader of the group but is one of the people who assembled there trying to raise banner for protest,” he added when asked if the person arrested is the leader of the group.
Mangau said they are currently investigating the gathering on Monday.
“No one actually stoned the police but there were people seen holding stones in hands at that time,” he said when asked on whether part of the crowd threw stones at the police.
A group of Malaitans had planned to march from the Kukum field to the Office of the Prime Minister to deliver a petition containing concerns of the people of the province on Monday.
However, that march did not happen.
The PMO denied receiving the petition.
The group stated that the petition will be resubmitted to the PMO.
