OPPOSITION Leader, Jeremiah Manele re-emphasised the need for a ‘united nation’ despite the country had faced many challenges since it gained Independence in 1978.
Manele made this sentiment during his Christmas message to the nation last Thursday.
“My good people, our Founding Fathers built our nation on the principles of Christianity, and our laws are derived from principles in the Bible.
“As such, we must not lose focus of our direction as a united nation and we must take courage for a better future for our nation,” he said.
Manele said it is his firm belief that there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel.
“Good citizens, our country is now 37 years old and I agree with sentiments shared by our late former Prime Minister Solomon Mamaloni that we are a country born but not yet conceived.
“This sentiment should not be seen as a discouragement but it should be a challenge for all of us to prove to ourselves and say ‘yes’ we are one people, one nation and we can stand on our own feet,” he said.
Furthermore, Manele encouraged national leaders to lead the country with leadership qualities.
“It is also a challenge for us leaders to reflect back and ask ourselves how serious we are in serving our people and moving this country forward.
“As leaders, we must be honest and serious in taking up our mandated responsibilities in serving our people before ourselves,” he said.
Finally, Manele said the hope of this country and of their children will not come from anywhere but from within each and every one of them, good citizens of this country.
“And From the message of God’s Love this Christmas; with hope comes love, service and dedication to one another with more passion because it is only through these values that we can stand together and move forward as one people and one country,” he added.
