COMMISSIONER of the Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) Gabriel Manelusi recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the International Youth Fellowship ((IYF) in Korea.
The MOU was signed after a week-long Police & Corrections Forum (PCF), which gathered commissioners from all over the world.
Manelusi said he signed the MOU with the founder of IYF, Dr Ock Soo Park.
Under the agreement IYF will assist to train employees and inmates through mind education programs and mobilize instructors, volunteers and performers to assist CSSSI.
The agreement also allows CSSI and IYF to maintain a cooperative relationship.
Manelusi said it was a five-year agreement that will be automatically renewed unless one of the parties decided to discontinue it.
The 2019 forum in South Korea, according to Manelusi, was held under the theme “A new understanding Crime Management & Character Education”.
“The purpose is to seek realistic correction and edification measures that will change prisons and inmates around the world and aim to construct social assimilation and prevent recidivism in order to promote world peace,” he said.
“The vision is to discover a mindset that leads to a happier life and safer world.”
Manelusi said participants shared current state and cause of problems in their countries, while also discussing possible solutions to address the need for new leadership and mindsets in the police and correctional service.
“They also pledged to implement practical measures through continuous cooperation with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF).”
During this forum, Manelusi has been appointed to the position of “Member of the IYF Advisory Committee”.
The committee’s aim is to address and strive for the alleviation and prevention of crime in their respective nations, as well as nations across the world.
