THE government needs to allocate an appropriate budget to move the Bina Harbour Tuna Processing Plant forward, says the Member of Parliament (MP) for West Are’Are John Maneniaru.
Speaking on the floor of the parliament yesterday the West Are’Are MP is of the view that the Bina Harbour project progress is very slow to this day.
Mr Maneniaru said the Bina Harbour project has been there for some time now.
Therefore, allocating an appropriate budget for the project will surely move the project forward.
He said the Bina Harbour project is just a second of such in the country behind Soltuna in the Western Province.
The West Are’Are MP spoke highly of the benefits that the country ripped from Soltuna where he said the same could be done for Bina Harbour should the government prioritize the project and finally deliver it.
He said by the look of things, even the responsible ministry is not prioritising this project.
With that, he said it is time to focus the project into a budget and allocate a meaningful budget to the project moving forward.
This paper understands that the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has signed a working Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the MARA government back in 2020 in persuading the project forward.
