MANY schools in North Malaita are yet to start classes for this academic year despite the fact that this now the third week of schooling for schools nationwide.
Information reaching Solomon Star Auki said schools in the Baegu-Asifola Constituency is lagging behind in the resumption of classes, a worrying sign for students and parents alike.
The following schools; Garota Community High School (CHS), Lilifia CHS, Binaulu CHS, Gwounatolo CHS, Sulufola CHS and Usuusue are yet to start the 2023 academic year.
Apart from the above-mentioned schools, information reaching Solomon Star stated that many more schools in Malaita, especially those in remote areas, are yet to start classes as teachers are yet to return to their duty stations.
Before the start of this academic year, the Malaita Education Authority (MEA) Chief Education Officer (CEO), Andy Siarani, made a call for teachers to return to school to prepare for the new year of schooling.
Mr Siarani, in his call, reminded teachers that the 2023 academic year will be a short one and that teachers must be committed to their work and work towards delivering their programmes before the academic year concludes.
He said schools throughout the country will close for the year before the Pacific Games in Honiara from November to December and encouraged teachers to deliver to expectation.
By the look of things, the call made by the MEA CEO has fallen on deaf ears as some schools under MEA are yet to start the 2023 academic year.
In the meantime, schools in Auki and nearby communities are in full swing and are well on track with the 2023 academic year calendar, an encouraging sign.
