More than 50 Maoa community high school students in West Kwaio, Malaita province have taken advantage of the discounted price of mobile phones offered by Our Telekom during the launching ceremony held at their school ground on Monday.
This means they now have access to internet, communications and other means of services provided by their cell phones.
At the launching Evelyn Malau a form two student said that finally the students can now have access the whole world in their own hands.
“For so long, we have been left out in the communication world. Now with the service and access to internet it would benefit us and our education,” she said.
She said with the internet service it would help them in their research.
Ms Malau said with the service now close to them, its good for the school to have a computer lab with access internet.
Meanwhile, some of the students even signed up to be as top-up agent.
“This is a good thing for our young people to engage in business in the communities,” a villager said.
He also applauded Our Telekom for the new service.
