As six provincial ministers resign
SIX provincial ministers serving under the Malaita Alliance for Rural Advancement (MARA) Government have reportedly resigned from the Daniel Suidani led regime last night with more to follow this week..
Sources from Auki in Malaita told the Solomon Star that the the resignation of these six ministers will be a test for MARA Government.
Its understood that MARA government was left shattered after Premier Suidani terminated his former Deputy Premier Randal Sifoni.
The Solomon Star last night sighted copy of their resignation letter which was addressed to the Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening Rollen Seleso.
The letter states; “In accordance with powers under section 19 (6) Provincial Government Act 1997 as read with Standing Order 52 Provincial Government Act 1997 of the Provincial Assembly of Malaita Province I write to advice you that Office of the Premier has today confirmed receiving resignation letters from the following provincial ministers,” the letter said.
The letter was signed by Sifoni as the Deputy Premier for Malaita Provincial Government.
The letter requested Minister Seleso to revoke the appointment of the six provincial ministers in compliance with the section 21 (2) Provincial Government Act 1997 and Section 32 (3) of the Interpretation of the General Provision Act (Cap 85).
Premier Suidani is still in Australia and is expected back in the country this month if all testing protocols are satisfied.
More than a week ago, executive members of the MARA government said some non-executive MPAs are on standby to take up portfolios should some of the provincial ministers decide to leave.
The paper was informed with the latest twist in the Malaita Provincial Government political landscape, the coming days would be interesting.
