THE Malaita Alliance for Rural Advancement (MARA) government joins the fight against corruption says the Malaita Provincial Premier Acting.
Randel Sifoni told the gathering public who gathered to mark the international anti-corruption day in Auki on Monday that MARA government will no longer entertain and accept business as usual where he said; “enough is enough.”
He said corruption has denied development in Malaita over the years and said it is time to do the right thing which is fighting against corrupt practice at the provincial level.
“Today I am honored to stand here on behalf of my Premier and the ruling Malaita Alliance for Rural Advancement (MARA) government to share few thoughts on our stand against corruption which has been robbing our country’s resources, undermining our children’s education, their health and employment and threatens our future.
“In a nutshell, the MARA Government has decided that enough is enough as we mark this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day 2019.
“As a government at the provincial level, we cannot just continue to entertain and accept the business as usual.
“In fact, corruption for so long has been denying us from achieving sustainable development, growth and improves standard of living,” he said.
He said in their effort to fighting corruption, MARA government believes in two fundamental philosophies to restore Malaita dignity and respect.
“Since the new government formation some five months ago, MARA government believes in its rural people to advance development inspirations in a holistic manner, one that is free from corruption practices.
“Malaita Provincial government also believes that to advance its rural population however, the empowerment of every body to refrain from greed and selfish attitude that often gave birth to corrupt practices must be controlled or even better stopped,” he said.
He said in taking ownership of this year’s international anti-corruption day, Malaita Provincial Government chose to promote the 2016 anti corruption day theme along side with this year’s theme which is united against corruption.
“The 2016 theme has really captured our government vision for a change Malaita and that is united against corruption for development, peace and security.
“Malaita provincial government believes that together we can fight corruption within ourselves in our positions for a better future for our children and country.
“Sustainable development cannot prevail without anti-corruption attitudes, polices, strategies and people who develop citizenship values that are rooted in Godly and democratic principles.
“The call for having responsible citizens in order to contribute well to provincial and nation building,” he said.
