MALAITA province government has welcomed the Malaita Myzomela Under 14 squad upon their arrival in Auki yesterday.
The Malaita Myzomela boys team won the under 14 boys’ category after beating Guadalcanal Under 14 boys in 2-0 result of the grand final match while the girls finished third with bronze medals.
Malaita Province Premier Daniel Suidani and the Minister for Women, Youth and Sport for Malaita Provincial Government, Erick Daoni welcome the team and officials upon arrival.
The premier said his government is proud and thank the players and families for support which resulted in a successful campaign.
He told the players and supporter that sports create friendship, love and unity that can heal the wounds.
“On behalf of the government of Malaita, the Malaita public, the Central, Northern, Southern, Eastern and MOI, we wish to convey our acknowledgement for great achievement displayed in the Solomon Power Iumi plei U14 tournament.
“We also wish to acknowledge the team officials and coaches for their tireless efforts to help achieve this success,” Premier Suidani said.
Suidani said that his government really supports sport as a priority component that creates leadership, friendship and good spirit of citizenship for Malaita.
He encourages young footballers to continue to maintain the good sportsmanship and grow their talents in sport.
Minister for Women, Youth and Sport for Malaita Provincial Government, Erick Daoni said the achievement reflects the development of sport in Malaita Province.
He acknowledges the commitment of the Malaita U14 team officials and coaches for the challenges they have encountered to achieve their goal.
“I believe you have that great commitment for the kids in Malaita province to develop in football,” Mr Daoni said.
