Marist society of Saint Mary parish Tanahai east of Honiara held a special Eucharistic celebration to welcome one of their members as he made his perpetual profession at Tanahai chapel on Sunday.
He is Brother Humphrey Karua from Hunanavo village in the Southern region of Malaita province.
He is the third born in the family of six (6) four boys including mum and dad. He made his perpetual profession in the Society of Mary after took up studies and decided to join the Marist Community to preach the word of God in the Communities.
He started his Mission study at Holy name of Mary Seminary in 2005 as a Diocesan Candidate for AukiDiocese before applying for the Marist Society later he was accepted and in 2008started (come and see program) in WainoniMakira province.
After that he was sent to start the Postulancy program and to continue his four years Seminary Study at the Pacific Regional Seminary in Suva, Fiji.
He also attended the Copal Christy Catholic teaching College study for one year and after sent him to do the pastoral in Levuka, Fiji and he sometimes teach at the Marist Convert School that care by the Marist Sisters (sms)
The Mass was celebrated by the Marist superior Fr.Lutoviko Manu and concelebrated by the other Marist Priest.
In his homily Marist superior Fr. Lutoviko Manu welcomes Brother Humphrey Karua in the Marist Community.
“We welcome you in our Community. Today you justly made your perpetual profession to live in the society of Mary and do perfect work that will leads you up to the works of the Marist Priest and to serve people with god’s words in our Communities, after your special vows during the date of your Priestly ordination,” he said.
He added, “The task is not easy and will take a long time to become a Marist Priest as a candidates you have to renew your vows three (3) times before applying for the final profession.”
He also explained the three vows which the candidates have to make which is the perfect charity, obedience and poverty and challenged him to spend his whole life in the generous service of god’s people.
He (Br) also received a holy cross during his perpetual profession as the symbol of the passion and death of Jesus on the cross and of the motherly love of Mary for him and as a sign of the commitment he have just made.
On behalf of the chairman and Tanahai parish former chairman Constantine Hako thanked Fr. Lutoviko for celebrating the special mass and the participating communities for witnessing the vow and the beautiful liturgy they performed during the celebration. Meanwhile relative’s representative Abraham Nemokane thanked the Marist community for accepting the call of their family member to become one of the permanent member in the family of the Marist brothers and thanked (Br) Humphrey for the choice of his vocation which not for himself but the joy for his extended families.
White River community leads the liturgy with the melody sounds of panpipe as Christians enter the chapel to celebrate the mass.
The celebration was attended by guests and Saint Mary Tanahai Parishioners.
