DEPUTY Police Chief Juanita Matanga is calling on people in the country to accept the 2024 joint elections results and not to involve in any unlawful action that might cause differences in the community.
She made the call following the arrest of 18 people in relation to election results in Western province recently.
She said 10 of the suspects were arrested at Aleang village in Shortland Islands on 21 April 2024 whilst the other eight suspects were arrested at Maravari village in South Vela La Vela on 22 April 2024.
“The motive behind the issue is on election related matters on the results where those on the losing side were not happy with the result and took the laws in their own hands by doing some unacceptable actions in the community,” DC Matanga added.
“Police investigators of the RSIPF in Gizo are investigating the matters and the suspects were bailed to appear in Gizo Magistrates’ Court on a later date.
She urged the good people in the country to accept the result of the election.
“Anyone who wins this joint election will represent us.
“Do not try to and involve in an action that can cause difference between each other.
DC Matanga said we are loving family members and those election results will come and go but family members will remain and stay in our communities.
