MATANGIKI White rugby team is ready to battle against Avaiki SPOL for the HRUA League Division A grand final should the HRUA Executive decide for a rematch.
The Division A grand final match ended in 3-3 all stalemate between rivals Matangiki White and SPOL Avaiki 2 on Monday at the Rugby Stadium, Town Ground.
The Honiara Rugby Union Association (HRUA) Executive will meet to come up with the decision for a possible re-match between the HRUA league Division A grand final match.
Matangiki captain, Lavernstar Puia said his side is up for a rematch should a rematch be the case.
“We are up and ready for another battle if there is a re-match.
“We took time out from our respective families to maintain our focus for this grand final.
“We have trained so hard for this final, not for a draw or for one person to ruin our efforts,” he said.
He calls on the HRUA executive to sort out issues regarding referees to officiate in the match before any re-match.
He claims it was a great grand final match however the referee ruined a great grand final due to biased decisions.
Prior to the match, there has been an exchange of the match officials, a decision Matangiki claimed they were unaware of.
Both sides have their side of the story with their respective options on how to deal with the grand final match.
SPOL Avaiki captain, Carlwyn Tengemoana also agreed to a rematch, however, said it would be a good idea if the outcome of the grand finals of the HRUA Premier Division between Matangiki and Avaiki be the decider for both grand finals.
“We are willing for a re-match, but the game on Wednesday (today) is also between Matangiki and Avaiki, so the winner should also be the decider for both finals,” he said.
Meanwhile, the grand final for the Premier Division has been scheduled to kick off at 4 pm today.
