WORK on the reconstruction of the only area health centre in Tikopia in Temotu province is set to kick off after building materials were delivered last week.
Member of Parliament (MP) for VATUD Freda Tuki Soriacomua personally delivered the materials.
The area health centre was damaged by the recent cyclone Pam.
Apart from the reconstruction of the damaged clinic, two new staff houses will also be constructed.
MV Onogou was chartered to bring the materials to Tikopia.
The MP also met with the Temotu provincial executive in Lata prior to her constituency tour asking for their support to help reconstruct the health centre.
She told them she will work closely with them to fulfil her vision for the constituency.
With damages being done to the area health centre on the island, she asked the Temotu provincial health department to render their support to the project.
After meeting with the executive Temotu provincial health authority will spearhead the reconstruction work.
Most of the building materials were funded by the constituency.
Director of nursing for Temotu province Augustin Bilve, thanked the MP for facilitating the materials.
“As director for health in the Temotu Provincial Government I would like to thank the MP for making it possible to provide the building materials to help rebuild the damaged clinic.”
He said, there had been talks much about rebuilding the damaged clinic in Tikopia. But since you have provided the materials I would like to thank you since the provincial government could not do anything about the centre because we did not have the financial capacity to rebuild this damage clinic and this is a big relief for Temotu health division,” Mr Bilve said.
