The people of Kolomola and Kolotubi wards in Hograno Kia Havulei (HKH) constituency are smiling following the arrival of housing materials for 45 new houses.
The materials were transported on board a landing craft and have landed successfully on their shores.
This was made possible through their newly elected Member of Parliament who is also the Parliamentary Opposition Leader Jeremiah Manele.
Housing scheme has been the flagship project of HKH constituency since Mr Manele came into power in the 2014 national general election.
To date, an estimated 500 plus houses have either fully completed or still undergoing construction under the scheme.
Last month it was Kolomola and Kolotubi wards’ turn to receive the housing materials.
About 45 individuals and families were the recipients of the housing material and their selection is based on the condition that they already have timbers in their possession.
The housing materials included chicken wires, nails, iron roofings, still rods and so forth.
HKH Constituency Development Officer (CDO), Apollos Manegere who has overseen the distribution of the housing materials said response from families who are benefiting under the housing scheme was one of joyous moment.
Mr Manegere said women and children in particular could not hide their contentment as they carried their materials to their villages, some of whom have to travel into the highlands from the coast.
“The housing materials deliveries are for new houses and the new recipients were so elated with happiness that they don’t mind the distance to travel with their loads of material,” Manegere added.
Manegere clarified that there are other houses as well from previous years that are still undergoing construction and he was there to see their progress.
The HKH CPO added that he is overwhelmed with satisfaction to see the progress of the housing scheme in both Kolomola and Kolotubi wards.
“A number of houses are still undergoing constructions, I’m happy to see them progressing well and near to completion,” Manegere said.
As for other villages and wards, Manegere said other deliveries will be made later especially for places like Susubona and Katova.
Responses from jubilant recipients of the housing materials were overwhelming as well, one Chief Atkin Vahia from Susubona village said such tangible development is the first of its kind for HKH.
Chief Vahia described HKH’s leadership as not only having a voice in parliament but it also provided tangible development that constituents can feel and see.
“This is the first of its kind compared to previous years,” Chief Vahia repeated.
