Honiara City Mayor and Councillor for Naha ward Alfrence Fatai has stepped into to assist the Naha football club (FC) with new sports equipment recently.
The assistance was handed over in a brief ceremony at Naha.
As a councillor responsible for Naha ward Fatai said, he was glad to provide such assistance for the club to help develop sports in his ward.
“It is an honour for me to assist you with the sports equipments to help develop sports in our community.
“A big challenge is to help provide a better field in Naha and I want to assure you that I will provide whatever means necessary to help upgrade the playing field,” he added.
Fatai further encouraged youths to engage themselves in sporting activities and also pledged his support for any organised sporting activities in the community.
Speaking on behalf of the club, coach Eddie Rukumana thanked Cr. Fatai for the timely assistance.
“Currently Naha FC is the only established club in a community in Honiara and such assistance from our Councillor is really welcoming,” he said.
“I want to thank Mayor Fatai for the assistance as it will boost the morale of the players and also help us in our trainings,” Rukumana said.
Rukumana also stated that the current setback of the club is the lack of proper field but said that with the assurance from Cr. Fatai, they are hoping to have a better sports field soon.
He further made an appeal to the Naha community to come forward and assist the club and to try and revive the club’s household name in the City.
Currently the Naha Football club is participating in the Honiara Football Association (HFA) competitions.
