The Mayor of Honiara City Cr. Eddie Siapu has made a call for a major voluntary clean up within the City.
Following the riot and looting over three days in the capitol, the City Mayor appeals to Business houses, NGOs, stakeholders, community leaders, Church leaders, and youth groups to assist Honiara City Council for the major clean up.
He said Honiara is home to everyone from every Provinces and overseas friends, and this voluntary clean up is to help our city with the aftermath.
The clean up will be tomorrow morning from White River to Burns Creek. HCC will take the lead with it’s officers and will also provide vehicles for rubbish collections.
Everyone are encouraged to come out in numbers for this cause.
Mayor Siapu also acknowledged the Fijian community, BSP staffs and others who have taken the initiative to voluntarily help clean China Town today and also EMCO company for cleaning the eastern side from Ranadi to Lunga area.
He also appeals to bus and canteen operators not to increase fares and prices.
The Mayor said despite the situation faced, bus fares must remain at two dollars for students and three dollars for adults.
Canteen owners within the City are also urged not to increase prices of goods.
