HONIARA City Mayor Eddie Kasute’e Siapu has highlighted unity as the greatest strength of a nation in his speech at the 46th Independence Anniversary celebration at the National Stadium in Honiara yesterday.
Mayor Siapu said the theme of this year’s independence anniversary celebration “Charting a United and Transformative Future” perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the country’s national journey since political independence on 7 July 1978.
He congratulated the Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele- led Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) for their recent election success following the National General Election on April 17.
Mayor Siapu said he looks forward for the positive changes and development that lie ahead of the country and extended his best wishes to all Members of Parliament and Members of the Provincial Assemblies.
He said the collective efforts of MPs and MPAs are vital to fostering a harmonious and progressive society.
Mayor Siapu also commended his fellow Honiara City Councilors for their unwavering support to him and their tireless effort in serving Honiara city.
Mayor Siapu said as councilors, they have the power to bring about significant and positive transformation to Honiara communities.
He said this independence anniversary is a celebration of the country’s rich history and is also an opportunity for Solomon Islands leaders and citizens to reflect on shared goals and aspirations as the country navigates itself into the future.
“Let us remember that unity is our greatest strength. By working together, we can create a society that drives on innovation and sustainability. As we look back on our shared journey, we can see the strength in our ability in the strives we’ve made. Let us continue to work hand-in-hand fostering inclusivity and driving transformative change so that together we will build a brighter and prosperous future for all,” Mayor Siapu said.
“I urge each one of you to embrace this vision of a United and Transformative future. Let us continue to support one and another and strive towards a society we all can be proud of,” he added.
