Taekwondo scoops 14 medals
TAEKWONDO has raked in a total of 14 medals including one gold for Solomon Islands at the Sol2023 Pacific Games over two days of competition.
Seven medals were won by female fighters on Tuesday and the other seven were collected by male fighters yesterday. The gold medal came from a male fighter yesterday.
Here is a glimpse of the Taekwondo results:
Isaac Pat Myrie bagged a historical “Gold Medal” for Solomon Islands yesterday in the 54kg Category.
Collecting silver medals for Solomon Islands was in the two-day competition were Erick Maetia (53kg), Jarmin Scotaz (57kg), Nicholas Sulamae (68kg) and Charlton Alafa (87kg). The last silver was won by Men’s Team event.
And collecting bronze medals for Solomon Islands were Baddely Ludawane (74kg), Rojie Fafale (87kg), Tenalyn Rove (49kg), Shandrea Nuala (46kg), Curthberta Kae (62kg), Stella Lisa (67kg) and Modie Foufaka (73kg). The other bronze was won by Women’s Team event.
With the latest collection of medals, the medal tally for Solomon Islands will now increase.
Solomon Islands Taekwondo Head Coach Junior Maetia said:
“I want to say that our achievement for both girls and boys on Tuesday and yesterday was historical for Taekwondo Solomon Islands.
“I would like to thank everyone for the support. I also want to thank all the athletes for their achievements.
“This year we have create history by scooping a medal for man and also collect more medals for the country.”
Maetia said they have proven their critics wrong by winning medals.
“Here we are marching to the podium to collect more medals for the country.”
Maetia said because of the negative comments, they worked hard to achieve what they have to achieve in this Sol2023 Pacific Games.
Joyful Maetia expressed acknowledgment to all the coaches, the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) and the Australian Government for sending a volunteer coach who have mentored the team and also coaches from China who have been part of the team’s preparation towards the Sol23 PG Taekwondo competition.
He said Solomon Islands National Taekwondo team is looking forward for another big event where they can win more gold medals for the country.
All taekwondo competitions ended yesterday.
