WHEN you visit Auki town, it’s hard to miss Max Bobby, a prominent advocator for the Malaita province’s green health initiative.
Under the Green and Health Auki program, Max takes the lead in raising public health awareness throughout the week.
Bobby’s job revolves around educating the community about maintaining a clean environment in Auki.
In an interview with Solomon Star, he shared insights into his role as a health and environment advocate.
“My mission is to inform the public daily about the importance of a healthy environment and how to keep our town clean,” Bobby explained.
“Each morning, I walk around Auki town to spread the message of ‘Keeping Auki Clean,” he said.
In addition to his outreach, Bobby and his team monitor activities that could lead to unhealthy practices, such as street vending in public spaces.
He acknowledged the challenges of changing mindsets within a diverse community.
“This work is demanding, especially when addressing differing perspectives,” he noted.
“It’s crucial to communicate effectively to encourage positive responses from the public.”
Bobby emphasized the importance of a thoughtful approach when delivering messages.
“Nowadays, you can’t simply tell people what to do. You must first establish a suitable way to communicate your message,” he said.
As a dedicated Malaitan, Bobby views his role as essential not just for himself but for the entire province and its residents.
“Some may perceive me as less effective in my role, but I approach this work with integrity, aiming to serve not just one person but many in our province,” he explained.
“It’s vital to ignore negative comments and focus on the responsibilities we have to our community.”
Bobby’s advocacy work has been a learning experience, allowing him to connect with people from various backgrounds.
“I’ve learned so much through this role, particularly the importance of a clean environment,” he shared. “The greatest reward is seeing how people respond to our awareness efforts through their support and collaboration.”
As a familiar face in Auki town, Bobby finds joy in raising health awareness. His popularity often leads to closer collaboration with community members, who approach him with their concerns.
He calls on all citizens to respect the environment, reminding everyone that we only have one Earth.
“We must honor it so that future generations can enjoy life,” M Bobby urged.
