HONIARA Golf Club came alive on Tuesday with the celebration of the Melbourne Cup.
The day is celebrated annually in Australia and many Australians in Solomon Islands also marked the day in style at Golf Club, Tuesday.
More than a hundred locals and expats with their families converged into Golf Club to watch the race live on TV while betting for their favourite horse.
Most of them especially ladies turned up in various dressing outfit and fashion as part of celebrating the day.
The best dressed group was awarded prizes as well.
The race had brought excitement to the viewers who shouted for their favourite horse throughout the race.
The overall winner in the betting competition was Michael Chan after his favourite horse won the race.
Prizes awarded to the second and third place winners.
Program organiser Gyanendra Singh applauded all those who turned up for the event.
The program as successful given the huge turn out and response from the locals and expats, he said.
He acknowledged the main sponsor Solbrew for supporting the event.
Money raised yesterday will support sick children in Solomon islands who may need medical attention overseas.
Meanwhile he said the MEGA golf sponsor tournament is scheduled for this Saturday where interesting games will be played.
“Players are encouraged to come and play on this coming Saturday.”
