Dear Editor – I must acknowledge and applaud the DCCG government for the great initiatives of the Members of Parliament Scholarship award.
The MPs Scholarship is a great opportunity for the considerable number of potential Solomon Islanders that are unfortunate to award with scholarship whether International, regional and Solomon Islands government Scholarship each year.
Ever since, thousands of students applied, but only handful of students got scholarships because of limited spaces and the decision of the MEHRD/NTU and NTC.
This is very frustration and a nightmare situation especially for the hard working students and their poor unemployed parents or fee payers that sacrifice everything for their daughters and sons’ school fees from primary to form 7 level.
I am optimistic to see that since this initiative was taken by DCCG government; it tolerates a lot of human resources of Solomon Islands to continue their studies and trainings at tertiary level.
I strongly believe and of a view that educating the human resources of the country like Solomon Islands with high population is a substantial step forward.
It is also a great expense relief for unemployed fee payers and they also count on their children to positively impacts their standard of living.
I urged the government to give more opportunities besides this MPs Scholarship to cater for the thousands of Solomon Islanders eager to studies and improve their skills and knowledge each year.
This would be one way forward the government invests for the long term benefits and development of Solomon Islands.
