TWO men who confessed to drinking alcohol in a public space at Point Cruz, Honiara, last August will be sentenced on Friday, 21st March.
Anthony Fo’oka and Walter Joseph pleaded guilty to the charge of Liquor Not To Be Consumed in a Certain Public Place, violating Section 65 of the Liquor Act.
Principal Magistrate Dalcy Belapitu Oligari will deliver her sentence on Friday morning.
The incident occurred on 4 August 2024 at the Happai area, when police officers on patrol spotted Joseph drinking from a Sara Whiskey can and Fo’oka drinking from a green ace cola can. The Sara Whiskey can was found to contain pre-mixed alcohol, whilst the green Ace Cola can was found to contain kwaso.
The men tried to dispose of the evidence when they saw the officers approaching.
Weigant Jagilly of the Public Solicitor’s Office represents the defendants, whilst Police Prosecutor John Mark Saugaro is prosecuting.
