COMMINS Aston Mewa has reclaimed the Temotu Nende seat in a landslide.
He polled 2,118 votes, well ahead of his runner up Simon Peter Melau, who collected only 684 votes.
Former deputy police commissioner Walter Kola came third with 625 votes.
The results were announced after 5.30pm yesterday.
Nine candidates contested the seat, including the premier of Temotu Fr. Brown Beu.
Meanwhile, the electoral manager for Temotu Luke Paul praised the public for their good behaviour during the election and counting process.
“My office was so impressed with such behaviour and this must be maintained at every future election,” he said.
Mr Paul said counting of ballot boxes for Temotu Pele and Temotu Vatud constituencies will start after the boxes arrive in Lata on Sunday.
A ship engaged by the Electoral Commission will bring the boxes from the two outer island constituencies.
Provincial Police commanders Reginald Kava also acknowledge the excellent behaviour shown by the public.
“I appeal to the public to maintain law and order until we finish the counting next week,” he said.
Mr Kava confirmed that police will continue to maintain tight security until the counting ends.
This would be Mr Mewa’s second term, after he claimed the 2010 nationals with 1,198 votes.
