MINISTER of Infrastructure Development (MID) Jimmy Lusibaea has resigned from the current ruling Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government led by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare last week.
Mr Lusibaea the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Malaita tendered his resignation last Friday.
A copy of the letter was cited by this paper yesterday, dated Friday 29th April. It was signed bearing the Minister but without a government letter head.
It was addressed to the Governor General Sir Frank Kabui. Prime Minister Sogavare was also sent a copy of the same letter.
In the letter Mr Lusibae explained he no longer has the trust in the current leadership of the government.
“…. I no longer have trust in the DCC Government, its leadership and leadership style.
“Therefore as of today 29th April 2016, I am resigning from being her Majesty’s Minister of Infrastructure Development (MID) and tender my resignation in accordance with Section 34(6)(d).”
The Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet when contacted yesterday was unable to comment on the matter while referring the paper to check with the Government House.
Government House private secretary Nigel Maezama last night was unable to confirm or deny the letter.
He explained there was a letter that was delivered late on Friday afternoon.
Mr Maezama said, left work around 4.30pm Friday and at that time nothing was received.
He however said, an envelop was delivered late on Friday to the Guard House addressed to the Governor General.
“An envelop addressed to the Governor General was delivered to the Guard House late on Friday but we are uncertain whether its this letter from the Minister or just an ordinary envelop.”
Mr Maezama said, they will know the content of the envelop today.
Attempts by the paper to get Mr Lusibae to confirm this letter resignation was unsuccessful last night.
Lusibae joined the DCCG October last year along with the MP for Baegu-Asifola David Tome, MP for Shortlands Chris Laore and MP for South Choiseul Elijah Doromuala and Namson Tran as a government Backbencer.
A number of political commentators said the current political situation as a result of the SIPA saga will be interesting in the coming days.
