Sulupu Belei from west Guadalcanal says that the ministry of Infrastructure development (MID) must revisit the Provincial work development (PWD) to look after road maintenance in the country.
In an interviewed with this paper he said that PWD is the best idea ever during their time.
“Why I suggested this is because during our days when PWD looked after road maintenance, our roads were fixed every time,” a 63-year-old Belei said.
He added this time where road were given to private contractors they always fail and in fact they are treating these roads like fundraising avenues.
“I worked with PWD during my younger days and found out that we are serious with work and when we do that we do it at our best,” he added.
Belei said that these days he observed that people working on the road were somehow not doing to the standard that can last long like before.
He said when PWD looks after the roads, whenever there is problem; they always stepped in to fix it.
Contractors these days when the road is deteriorating, they will always wait for money from the government before moving.
“Compare to our days before which is totally different. We always want to fix our roads because that is what we were task for.
“I really want to see the Ministry revisit that idea and make sure they run it for the betterment of our roads in the country.
