Midwest Football Club (FC) has emerged as the champions of the Malaita Football Association (MFA) Auki Capital League (ACL).
The team from West Kwara’ae claimed the top spot, receiving a trophy, 28 gold medals, and a cash prize of $8,500.
Led by the formidable Junior Zimry, a former Malaita Eagles sensation, Midwest showcased exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the season, culminating in their championship victory.
Central United FC finished as the second runner-up, earning 28 silver medals and a cash prize of $6,500.
W4 FC secured the third runner-up position, receiving 28 bronze medals and a cash prize of $5,000.
Wales FC rounded out the top four, with a cash prize of $4,000.
Following the ACL’s completion, the top four teams participated in playoffs.
W4 FC emerged victorious, earning an additional $2,000, while Central United FC was the runner-up, receiving $1,000.
In addition to the main prizes for the MFA-ACL 2024 season, various individual awards were presented.
Central United FC was honored as the fairest team of the season.
Robert Akofia of Midwest FC won the Golden Boot, while Trevor Suluia of W4 United received the Golden Ball.
The Golden Glove award went to David Hano of Midwest FC.
Midwest FC’s Jimmy Gau, in an interview with ACL media, praised his team’s hard work and perseverance throughout the season.
Gau acknowledged the challenges of the tournament but credited teamwork for their success.
Malaita Football Association (MFA) Vice President John Osi, speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, expressed gratitude to all participating teams.
Osi also announced that the ACL will become an annual event, providing more opportunities for teams, players, and supporters in Auki.
The MFA looks forward to the next ACL season in the coming year.
