A week long mining awareness to educate people in Rennel Island on the effects and benefits of the mining industry is being planned for Monday next week.
This mining awareness came following the approval of an Indonesian mining company by the national and provincial government last month to conduct prospecting licences.
Provincial secretary (PS) of Renbel province Baiabe confirmed this to the Solomon Star early this week.
The mining awareness will be conduct on all villages on the island.
A private environmental group had been engaged to conduct the awareness program.
The awareness program is expected to last two weeks.
Meanwhile Mr Baiabe urged people in Rennel to work closely with the Renbel provincial government to prepare for this awareness.
