GWAUNARU’U airport has been closed for quiet sometime now and efficient air transport to Auki has been paralysed affecting the traveling mass.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism (MCT) Samuel Manetoali during his trip to attend a Shell-Money festival at Busu village, Langa langa, extended to visit to Gwaunaru’u during which he spoked with landowners and members of the community.
“This is an important infrastructure and route to Auki. It stimulates tourism therefore; it is of paramount importance that the airport is re-opened.
“The closure of this airport affects visitors to the province which in turn affects tourism operators.
The minister said Malaita has many interesting cultures that tourist would want to see therefore the airport needs re-opening.
He urged the provincial government, landowners and other parties involved to discuss and re-open the airstrip.
