THE Ministry of Lands will soon establish an office in Auki, Malaita Province to begin the customary land recording programme in the province.
Malaita Province premier Peter Ramohia made this announcement during the provincial full assembly meeting in Auki on Tuesday.
Mr Ramohia said the office will be used by the ministry’s reform group.
“I’m glad to announce that the reform group from the Ministry of Lands will establish their office here in Auki to begin a customary land recording programme in the province.
“I have already identified an office space for this purpose,” Mr Ramohia said.
He also announced that the national government has contracted the services of Willie Hiuare to lead the Traditional Governance Land Reform Pilot Bill.
“Land reform is very important as it is all about anchoring customary land ownership by tribal land owners in law, protection of customary landowners and participation of land owners, investors and government in the development of the customary land,” the premier said.
He said his MART Government will pursue this land reform and will continue to push for it at the national level because this land reform is the strategy for development in Malaita Province.
