Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) plans to stage a mini celebration marking the 2014 world tourism day(WTD) in Munda, Western province on Friday.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary (PS) John Wasirevealed this to the Solomon Star in an interview on Wednesday.
The day is celebrated every year on 27 September. It is a global observance to highlight tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value.
WTD 2014 is being held under the theme ‘Tourism and Community Development’ – focusing on the ability of tourism to empower people and provide them with skills to achieve change in their local communities.
Mr Wasisaid in Munda the day is expected to be celebrated alongside the opening of a mini war museum on Friday.
“The ministry suggests to organise this world tourism day in Munda in line with this year’s theme. And I’m working on it to ensure this program is held in Munda,” Mr Wasi said.
A confirmation whether the celebration will be held in Munda is expected today, Thursday.
