New basketball team, MMTM caused one of the biggest upsets in the Namson Tran basketball competition when they edged their way past the 2013 Honiara Basketball League champions, Blazers with an impressive 31-26 win at the Multipurpose Hall on Sunday.
Both teams had the chance of coming out victorious after the match as they fought their way through all four quarters with scores staying close.
Blazers started off well leading the first quarter by 8-4 but the score was leveled by the MMTM side in the second 12-12.
Blazers again regained the lead in the third quarter but only by a basket difference.
MMTM who were consistent in pace all throughout the match took over the lead mid-way through the final quarter and kept it that way for the final whistle.
With the win MMTM now moves up one place on fifth spot while Blazers remain on third spot below Western Bullets on second and Marist at the top of the ladder.
Meanwhile Crusaders defeated the U19 55-33 in the second men’s game while Lakers defeated El-Divas and Defenders defeated Andel for the women’s category.
Both women’s matches were won by forfeiture.
