TRANSFER of money from overseas via the M-Seleni Money Mobile Service offered by Our Telekom will soon be possible.
This is one of the striking features of the newly introduced M-Seleni Money Mobile Service launched early this week.
At the launch of the latest financial service in Gizo, Western Province, on Monday, it was revealed once M-Seleni is fully operational, transfer of money from overseas countries like Australia and New Zealand will be possible.
Honiara and Auki and also launched the service on Monday.
Our Telekom Service Network Agent Manager, Aseri Grouse told Solomon Star that through authorised master agents that have been established, registered customers can make cash deposits or withdrawals.
Not only that, but customers can make top-up for calls, cash power top-ups and financial transfer between businesses.
He said for Solomon Islanders working overseas, especially those seasonal workers who normally send money via Western Union, they can do so via M-Seleni.
“Once this service becomes fully operational, they can send money through to the account of a registered user using the M-Seleni.
“So that’s one of the features of the M-Seleni.
“Once you received the amount via your account, you can travel to an authorised agent to withdraw your cash,” Mr Grouse said.
Mr Grouse said with this service, anyone can visit a nearby authorised agent to withdraw cash or goods from a shop.
Our Telekom Western Region Manager, Kalwin Aquillah said the service is important when someone is facing a situation where he or she cannot access the bank.
Mr Aquillah said the service is available 24-7 and customers can also use it to top-up their mobile phones and cash power.
In the past days, customers have flocked into Auki, Gizo and Honiara to sign up for the new service.
More services are expected to be added to the features of M-Seleni.
Since the launch of the service on Monday, many people in the Western Province have been inquiring about it.
Many have been excited by the service as it will allow money transfers from overseas.
This is to avoid traveling long distances to access Western Union to withdraw their money.
In Western Province, the only Western Union branch is located in Gizo. Hence, people from the surrounding islands would have to travel to the provincial capital to access the service.
Our Telekom’s M-Seleni project was funded by the Australian Government and supported by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
It is understood that Solomon Post also offers a similar service.
