MORE items of the boat carrying seven people that went missing between Gizo and Choiseul have been found at sea.
Seghe Police informed this paper that on Wednesday last week, several light items believed to have been on the missing boat were found by a fishing boat, 34.6 nautical miles south west of Seghe, Western Province.
Officer in charge, Morris Rikihi said the items found included; an empty Jerican, an OBM fuel tank, a pair of floaters and rope tied to a pallet.
Mr Rikihi said with the recent discoveries of the OBM boat and a corpse the past two weeks, it is highly likely that the items found afloat at sea might be those of the missing boat.
“At this stage we are waiting on information from the people with regards to these items and also if any of them can identify these to be those of the missing boat,” Mr Rikihi said.
He said police are still waiting on the owners of the boat to assist them in identifying and retrieving the discovered items (including the boat).
However, he said no one has come forward.
Mr Rikihi also added that police understand that a man who discovered the boat has demanded that he be compensated or commended before the owners of the boat can retrieve it.
He said once the owners contacted police they will then negotiate for its release.
