THE Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) has extended its COVID-19 Extra Care training to tourism operators in Isabel and Western provinces.
Principle tourism training officer of the Tourism Division within the MCT Rachel Sibisopere said the training is to teach tourism operators and staff on the strict COVID-19 safe protocols to enable them to operate their services safe in this period of COVID-19.
Ms Sibisopere said the pandemic has now changed how the tourism and hospitality sector operates.
Therefore, she said she hoped the new procedures in the training will give staff the confidence to start receiving domestic and international visitors.
So far 199 tourism workers have attended trainings conducted in Munda, Gizo and Isabel.
Ms Sibisopere said the training covered areas which guests will come in contact with during their time at the tourist accommodations and also with the things they will use at the destinations.
Following the training, participants said the tourism industry is now ready to move forward when our international border opens.
“The world is slowly opening up and so should we. With our health safety skills, we are ready to serve our guests with confidence,” a participant said.
Similar trainings will be conducted for the tourism operators and workers in other provinces to enable them to get back into business when our international borders open.
The Tourism COVID-19 Extra Care Training initiative is co-conducted by the Tourism Division, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Health and Medical Services and Tourism Solomons with the generous financial support of Strongim Bisnis.
