Dear Editor – As a concerned citizen of this country, I challenged you the leaders of this nation to never give a blind eye to this matter of urgency, but work together and start putting positive efforts in trying to curb the high rate of unemployment in this nation.
Currently, the percentage of unemployed youths in our society is growing rapidly. There are more and more school dropouts each year who never had a job because there are no job opportunities left or created for them.
A lot of youths from rural areas are pouring into Honiara in search of jobs and educational opportunities as there is no hope for sources of income back in their villages.
They are being ignored, ripped and deprived by their own leaders from their rights to get the benefits of millions and millions of dollar funds in the name of rural development.
Let me remind you, to be unemployed is a hopeless and a frustrating situation. Therefore, this awkward situation can poison the young mind of our youths to engage and involve in any criminal and unlawful activities arising in our society today.
However, lack of creating more jobs for its work force is a major cause of high unemployment in this nation.
Thus, the government leaders need to embark on creating more tangible developments that can provide more jobs and opportunities for its human resources rather than amassing wealth and power for their own shake.
I urge the DCC government and other future government of this nation to take serious consideration to this issue when it is still at its manageable stage.
Let us hope and pray that unemployment will not be a curse for our country in the future.
