Malaria division Guadalcanal province has started distribution of mosquito nets in Guadalcanal province last week.
This mass distribution is conducted every three years, and it is very important and main activity for us in this year.
Because the reduction of malaria cases year after year reflects the important and effect of LLIN (Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets).
A statement from the Malaria division said this activity started in North West and east Guadalcanal. The other area will also start distribution when they receive their supply of nets.
“When we visited tetere station where is high malaria place, people in village were very happy to receive net.
“We have 2 sizes net, one is medium and the other is large (Family). We decide the amount of distribution to one house from total number of house hold members and sleeping arrangement.
“When we give the net, we ask some questions and give instruction on how to use the nets. And we always tell them to sleep inside mosquito net every night. It’s a very simple but important message. Because it is the most effective activity to reduce malaria.”
It was also highlighted that the mosquito net is NOT for sale, it’s a free gift from Global fund. “So please take good care of the net and use it correctly to protect you from getting malaria or other mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and Zika.
“This activity will be continuing more than one month. We are very glad to visit your villages and please cooperate with malaria staff.”
