A WEST Guadalcanal mother claims she was a victim of thieves who stole her bag with all her valuables, including $2,000 cash, at the 02 Market, White River, on Tuesday.
Mary Pau said the incident occurred at 8am.
She told our Guadalcanal stringer John Toki the stealing occurred when a group of women rushed in to buy bags of betel nut from them when they arrived.
Mr Toki said the bag was removed from the mother without her noticing it.
“She’s got $2,000 cash in that bag as well as other valuables. They’re all gone without a trace,” Mr Toki said.
Mr Toki said the women called on responsible authorities like the Guadalcanal Province and the national government to consider establishing a proper market for them to sell their products.
“The safety of these women is important and responsible authorities should consider this,” Mr Toki said.
“Vendors’ security is a must that responsible authorities must take in mind.
“These women always struggle to make ends meet. The money the woman lost was her family’s, and they worked hard to earn such amount,” Mr Toki said.
