THE Mother’s Day sports event, which was held on Saturday, concluded its final games on Monday afternoon at the Rove Police Grounds.
The games were organised by Paoa FM as part of its annual Mother’s day celebration.
A team of colorful uniforms paraded in the field on Saturday morning as the event was opened with an address by the guest speaker Chair of Transparency Solomon Islands (TSI), Ruth Liloqula.
Mrs Liloqula emphasized on the importance of commemorating the day for all mothers, and encouraged mothers of the nation to continuously push themselves to be the best they can.
“Hold yourself accountable, for our country needs us to nurture the next generation where there is hope for gender equality and equal opportunity exists for all where we can co-exist peacefully,” Ms Liloqula said.
She also stressed the hardship mothers face and why events such as the Mother’s Day Games should be highlighted.
Her uplifting speech was followed by an energetic warm up before the play offs. Teams competed in Volleyball, Netball, Futsal and also 50m race.
Dancing mothers got to show off their moves as well in the best dance showdown, whereby individual mothers also received prizes.
Monday’s finals concluded with the Mamas team winning the first prize in Netball followed by The Southerns, Honiara City Council (HCC) in third and Isa Netball taking the 4th spot.
