Members of the Mothers Union in west Guadalcanal came together to celebrate and remember the founder of the Anglican Mothers Union around the world.
The founder of the Mothers Union was Mary Sumner.
The celebration was held over the weekend at Maravovo village with more than 1000 people attending the event including members of communities.
The program was highlighted with a colourful parade with over 400 Mothers Union members in the region.
Diocese secretary and coordinator of West Guadalcanal Fr Francis Lauvata said the celebration was to commemorate the founder of the Mothers Union within in the Anglican Church of Melanesian.
He said its a time mothers throughout the diocese and other parts of the world usually come together to celebrate and share experiences.
He said the celebration was the first of its kind for Mothers Union in the West Guadalcanal to come together to celebrate and remember the founder of Mothers Union ministry in the Anglican church of Melanesian.
He said since it was their first for such celebration to happen in the diocese.
“The huge turnout shows support to the event.”
He said the Mothers Union is not only for mother but for every lady to attend because it will continue in the future and that one day all the young ladies will become mothers.
President of the mothers union of diocese of Guadalcanal Mrs Edith Padavisu said although its the first of its kind for the diocese to organise the event, all the mothers were able to come together, to share, interact and fellowship with others.
She described the event as very exciting for the mothers, whom some of them have participated in event for the first time.
With the success of the event, the program will now be celebrated annually as way of respect and to remember of the founder of Mothers Union.
