THREE partners have came together to empower youths and address impacts of climate change on Guadalcanal Province (GP).
Guadalcanal Provincial Government (GPG), the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress (SINYC), and Plan International Solomon Islands (PISI) have signed a youth Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Guadalcanal Province’s (GP) headquarters in Ritaleven, Central Honiara, on Wednesday.
The goal of the MoU is to support and strengthen the economic empowerment of young people while addressing the adverse impacts of the climate crisis on youths, particularly young women.
Josie-Anne Ashley, General Secretary of SINYC, said this MoU signifies the commitment to youth development in Guadalcanal Province.
“The partnership we established today creates a strong foundation for meaningful collaboration. Our initial focus will be the implementation of the Youth Economic and Climate Action project (YECA), in partnership with Plan International Solomon Islands. Through YECA, we will open new pathways for youth to actively participate in economic development and climate action—two areas crucial to our province’s sustainable future,” said Ashley.
Maesac Suia, Provincial Secretary of GPG, welcomed the MoU and assured SINYC and PISI of the implementation of the partnership at the provincial level.
Suia emphasized that strengthening youths is significant because it is the solution to more problems in the province in the future.
“I believe if we strengthen our youth, we will not need to spend more money on our police force,” he said.
He said youth development is one of the key priorities of GP Premier Willie Atu’s government.
