THE Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Kwara’ae Constituency, Ricky Fuo’o, has expressed gratitude to the Australian government and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MID) for their significant support toward the Emergency Road Maintenance Project on South Road in Malaita.
MP Fuo’o expressed his gratitude on the floor of Parliament this week after learning that transport services have recommenced along the South Road.
This vital road is one of three main routes connecting the people of Central Kwara’ae to and from the Auki township.
The other two roads, Fulisango and Busurata, are also in need of urgent maintenance as they also serve a majority of farmers who supply fresh vegetables and crops to the Auki market.
The South Road, which has been closed for nearly two years in need of repairs, reopened for public usethrough funding support from the Australian Government. This funding support enables the emergency maintenance work currently underway on this stretch of road.
The implementation of this project began after the Australian and Solomon Islands governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in July this year.
MP Fuo’o highlighted the successful progress of the road works, which have now reached Maoro School and has significantly enhanced connectivity and accessibility for both the Central Kwara’ae and West Kwaio constituencies.
He expressed his satisfaction in seeing that the project has provided opportunities for locals to engage in the project implementation and in turn support their families.
MP Fuo’o said he was pleased to learn that transport operators are now utilizing the road, providing daily transport services.
