WHILST the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kwara’ae must be thanked for purchasing machines to do road maintenance within his constituency, there is also a need for him to prioritise health and education issues in east Malaita.
This was according to an east Kwara’ae constituent, Andrew Idu.
In an interview with the Solomon Star on Monday, Mr Idu said MP Manasseh Maelanga should be praised for seeing it fit to purchase an excavator to fix the devastating roads of east Malaita.
Last week, the MP handed over a new brand excavator machine worth $1.58 million to the constituency in Honiara.
The Deputy Prime Minister said, the machine is purposely for East Kwara’ae constituency with his mission to build road access and improve roads within his area.
It was his constituency’s committee in Honiara that made the decision to purchase the machine, instead of a ship.
“The MP should be lauded for this smart move.
“Our roads are currently on a bad state now, and the new machinery will surely help in rebuilding it.
“Thank you MP Maelanga,” Idu said.
However, he is calling on the MP to prioritise health and education in the east Kwara’ae constituency.
“Some of the schools and health centres in the constituency need to be upgraded.
“Therefore, I am calling on our MP to prioritise them so that the constituency can be further developed.
“Or if he already has plans in place to upgrade the status of health and education in east Kwara’ae, we really need him to implement it now so that people in the rural areas can feel and see the presence of development in the constituency,” Mr Idu added.
