MALAITA provincial members have promised to work together as a group to achieve development aspirations of the province’s new administration.
Speaking during an induction meeting on Tuesday at the provincial assembly’s green house after taking their oaths of allegiances, the members admitted that the province is sinking and needs their support to rescue it.
Malaita Province has recently come in the limelight for facing financial hiccups which paralysed the administration from providing necessary services to people.
When sharing his experience from the past assembly, Alick Maeaba who was the deputy premier revealed working together was the sole problem of the past house.
“Members within the government never co-operated which resulted in goals and development plans not achieved.”
He said he hope the new group detours from such bad practice and put the province as their top priority.
“I would like to see teamwork. We can move this province forward with teamwork.”
Mr Maeaba said members of the executive and ordinary members alike must humble themselves and cooperate.
“Enough of political differences because at the end of the day, we are serving the people of Malaita who entrusted us with power to deal with the province on their behalf.
The new assembly members pledged that they will improve on failures and work collaboratively to achieve set goals.
The province will elect a new speaker today followed by the election of a premier tomorrow.
